Colorado 13er · Over Mount Lady Washington from the Longs Peak Trailhead

Overview

Storm Peak is the rocky summit north of Longs Peak, above the Boulderfield. From the Longs Peak trailhead, you hike the busy East Longs Peak Trail past Mills Moraine, climb straight up to Mount Lady Washington, drop 500 feet into the Boulderfield, and climb about three-quarters of a mile of Class 3 rock to Storm Peak.

It is sustained Class 3, with plenty of harder Class 4 options if you wander. The route up Storm is steep enough to be dangerous when wet or icy.

The round trip is about 11.4 miles with 4,700 feet of gain, including Lady Washington.

Less traffic, less margin

This describes the route on a dry summer day. Most 13ers see few people, so there may be no one along behind you. Check recent conditions the week you go, carry a map, tell someone your plan, and turn around when the day tells you to.
