Overview

Little Horn Peak sits just north of Horn Peak above Westcliffe. From the Horn Creek trailhead you leave the Horn Creek trail at a clearing, zigzag up through open forest to the northeast ridge, and follow it to a notch and the summit.

It is Class 2 with an easy Class 3 scramble into a notch near the top.

The round trip is about 8.5 miles with 4,200 feet of gain.

Route-finding

Moderate. From the clearing on the Horn Creek trail, climb northwest staying just south of a small drainage, then curve west up a subtle shoulder to the ridge.

Find it on a map

Go south from Westcliffe on Colorado 69 about 3.4 miles to Schoolfield Road and head west. In 1.7 miles go south on County Road 129; in about 2 more, go west on Horn Creek Road (County Road 130). Sky Ranch comes up 2.4 miles along; turn right there, and the big Horn Creek lot (9,100 feet) is half a mile ahead.
